During World War II, Paratroopers realised that the suspension lines of their parachutes could also be used as a versatile survival tool, they would cut this cord from the chute once they had landed. This cord could then be used for any number of tasks, giving it the nickname 'opportunity cord'.

When unravelled, the Bracelet contains approx 2,4m [8ft] of paracord, this can be used for a multitude of purposes, including:
- Clothesline
- Animal snaring & traps
- Snow shoes
- Bowdrill [for making fire]
- Shelter building
- Raft making
The "guts" of the cord can be used for:
- Fishing net & fishing line
- Sewing thread
- Dental floss
